Service Workers You Should Tip

The world of tipping can often be a confusing one. That’s because there really are no set rules when it comes to tipping. You can ask 5 different people how much they tip, and you’ll get 5 different answers. However, there is some good news- there are some general guidelines you can follow when it comes to who to tip, when to tip and how much to tip. You’re welcome.

Bartender- $1 per drink, or 15% to 20% if you’re on a tab.
Food Delivery Person- Usually 10% of your bill, but you should tip a minimum of $2.
Waiter/Waitress- 15% of your total bill and 20% for outstanding service.

Appliance/Furniture Delivery Person- $5 to $10 for each delivery person.
Exterminator- Generally, exterminators who perform monthly maintenance visits are not tipped. However, exterminators who treat a specific infestation, like ants, bed bugs, cockroaches or mice, should get a tip of $10 to $20.
Flower Delivery Person- $2 to $5 per floral arrangement.
Mover- $20 per person for a normal move and $50 per person for a move with a lot of items or larger items.
Package Delivery Person- For the most part, DHL, FedEx and UPS drivers do not get tipped. The exception, however, is if you are receiving a heavy or oversized package. In this case, a $5 tip is fine.

Airport Shuttle Driver- Standard tip is 15%, exceptional service is 20%.
Bellman/Porter- $1 to $2 per bag that they deliver to your hotel room.
Housekeeper- $2 per night if you are staying at a budget hotel, like Holiday Inn or Best Western and $3 to $5 per night if you are staying at a luxury hotel, like Four Seasons or Ritz-Carlton. Note: You’ll want to be sure to tip housekeeping daily since it may not always be the same person cleaning your room.
Parking Valet- $2 for a standard tip and $5 for outstanding service.
Room Service- 15% to 20% of your bill. Note: If you see a gratuity charge on your bill, the tip has already been added for you.
Taxi Driver- 15% to 20% of your fare.
Uber/Lyft Driver- $1 to $2 per person for shorter rides, otherwise the standard tip is 10%.

Apartment Superintendent- $20 to $100, depending on how helpful they were throughout the year.
Babysitter- Equivalent of one week’s pay.
Gardener- $20 to $50, depending on how often they came to your home throughout the year.
Housekeeper- Equivalent of one week’s pay.
Mail Carrier- $15 to $20.
Nanny- Equivalent of one week’s pay.
Newspaper Delivery Person- $15 to $25.

Barber/Hairstylist- Standard tip is 15%, exceptional service is 20%.
Bathroom Attendant- $1 but only if they hand your paper towels, otherwise no tip is necessary.
Car Wash Employee- $2 for a regular-sized vehicle, $3 to $5 for an SUV, truck or van and 15% for detailing.
Dog Groomer- Standard tip is 15%, exceptional service is 20%.
Manicurist/Pedicurist- Standard tip is 15%, exceptional service is 20%.
Masseuse- Standard tip is 10% to 15%, exceptional service is 20%.
Tattoo Artist- 20% for standard tip and 25% for outstanding service.
