How to Save Money on Your Monthly Cell Phone Bill

March 31, 2016 in Saving Money

woman holding up mobile for selfie

If your monthly cell phone bill is too expensive, there are ways that you can start saving money without having to give up the luxury of having your convenient mobile device with you everywhere you go. This is particularly important if you’re on a tight budget and you’re struggling to make ends meet. Continue reading for a few helpful tips to get started.

Pay As You Go
Avoiding signing onto a cell phone contract can save you money. First off, there are no-contract options out there that are cheaper every month when compared to 2-year contract options. Secondly, when you opt for a no-contract plan, you’ll pay off your phone in monthly installments that dont charge you any interest and also reduce the line access fee.

Get on a Family Plan

If everyone in your family has their own cell phone and youre currently paying for each plan separately, you may be better off hopping onto a family plan. You’ll likely need to share the minutes and texts, as well as the data, but if you can all stay within your limits, you’ll probably be able to save quite a bit of money in this way.

Only Pay for the Data You Really Need

While it may be tempting to go with the cell phone plan that gives you the highest amount of data possible, you need to really think about whether or not you truly need all of that data. Track your data usage so you have a better idea of just how much data you use each month. Then check out what options several different cell phone service providers offer and go with the one that gives you the amount of data you need without going overboard.

Shop Around

These days, there are so many cell phone service providers to choose from, each offering their own plans and their own rates, so you definitely have a lot of options. Search through plans and prices from many providers and compare their offerings, then go with the one that gives you the best value for the best price. Of course, you should also take into consideration the reliability of the provider, as you don’t want to be paying for a service that doesn’t work.

Check If You Qualify for Government Assistance Programs

There are several government assistance programs available to those who fall into the low-income category and find it difficult to afford all of the things they need, such as cell phones. Check out this webpage to get more information on a program that provides people in need with cell phones and cell phone service. You may qualify, and this would definitely help ease the burden of the monthly bills that you have to pay.

By implementing the tips above, you can start saving money on your monthly cell phone bill and still have a great plan that gives you everything that you need to talk, text, and stay connected to the Internet at home, at work, and on the go.

I have a family plan but I swear that our bills are still way out there. I need a way to really reduce it and the only way right now might just be to end the contract and start with a new company.

Great ideas! We just realized the other day that we were still paying the payments on our actual phones along with the services. We paid off our phones and the bill went WAY down!

We just went through and reviewed our cell phone bill to see where we could cut back. Data was the biggest spot where we could reduce usage. Our second was to put my mothers phone on a pay as you go plan because she very seldom uses it.
