Best Non-Alcoholic Drinks to Make This Winter

Winter months are cold and frigid, so you want something nice and warm to keep you cozy. Here are some of the best non-alcoholic drinks to make this winter.

hot chocolate with cinnamon

Hot Chocolate with a Kick
Ingredients:
4 cups of hot cocoa, prepared
¾ teaspoon of nutmeg
½ teaspoon chili powder
4 cinnamon sticks

Directions:
In a pitcher or other pouring container, mix together prepared hot cocoa, nutmeg and chili powder. Pour into coffee mugs and add a cinnamon stick before serving.

Spiced Hot Apple Cider
Ingredients:
5 cups of apple cider
2 cinnamon sticks
4 cloves, whole
Cinnamon sticks for garnishing

Directions:
In a pan, over medium-high heat, add apple cider, 2 cinnamon sticks and cloves. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 6 minutes. Pour into mugs and garnish with cinnamon stick.

Comforting Chai Tea
Ingredients:
¾ cup of water
3 whole green cardamom pods, crushed
2 slices of fresh ginger, thin
1 cinnamon stick
1 piece of star anise
¾ cup of milk
2 teaspoons of black tea leaves, loose
Honey for sweetening

Directions:
On the stove, using a saucepan, add water, pods, ginger, cinnamon stick and anise. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes. Then, add in milk and tea leaves, simmer for an additional two minutes. Next, turn heat off and allow to sit for 3 minutes. Using a mesh strainer, drain tea into a mug and toss leaves and spices. Add honey to sweeten.

lemonade

Winter Lemonade
Ingredients:
Water
1 lemon, sliced
1 tablespoon of honey
1 cinnamon stick

Directions:
In a saucepan, on the stove, heat to boiling. Slide the lemon slices onto the cinnamon stick, then add the stick to the boiling water. Turn heat off and allow to steep for 4 minutes. Add in honey to sweeten.

peppermint

Peppermint Hot Chocolate
Ingredients:
1/3 cup of hot cocoa mix
1 quart of milk
½ cup of chocolate chips
3 peppermint sticks, crushed
4 peppermint sticks, whole

Directions:
In a saucepan, over medium heat, add cocoa mix and milk, stirring until cocoa mix has dissolved. Add in chocolate chips and crushed peppermint sticks. Continue to simmer, stirring often, for about 9-11 minutes or until peppermint and chocolate has melted. Allow to boil and then remove from heat. Pour into mugs and garnish with peppermint stick.

    I drink a lot of hot tea in the winter – it keeps me warm! I also have been drinking an awful lot of coffee lately, which probably isn’t a good thing, but I have been enjoying it a lot lately!

    We don’t drink any sort of Alcohol drinks at home & we always try out something new every time we have some get together at home. The hot chocolate with cinnamon is something I would want to try right away & the Winter Lemonade sounds great as well.

    I like to put chili powder in my hot chocolate, too. I was always taught that’s the best way to make Mexican Hot Chocolate. I’ve never tried making my own chai, though, and I love it – so I should give that one a whirl

Sorry Kanye, but this is the greatest of all time. Sorry Kanye, but this is the greatest of all time. The Goat of all soups. And it’s easy to make too. 

🍁 Vegetable Soup 
Here’s what you need: 
2 Tbsp olive oil
1 1/2 cups chopped yellow onion (1 medium)
2 cups peeled and chopped carrots (about 5)
1 1/4 cups chopped celery (about 3)
4 cloves garlic , minced
4 (14.5 oz) cans low-sodium chicken broth* or vegetable broth
2 (14.5 oz) cans diced tomatoes (undrained)
3 cups peeled and 1/2-inch thick diced potatoes (from about 3 medium)
1/3 cup chopped fresh parsley
2 bay leaves
1/2 tsp dried thyme
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 1/2 cups chopped frozen or fresh green beans
1 1/4 cups frozen or fresh corn
1 cup frozen or fresh peas 

Instructions:

🍁 Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. 
🍁 Add onions, carrots, and celery and saute 4 minutes then add garlic and saute 30 seconds longer.
🍁 Add in broth, tomatoes, potatoes, parsley, bay leaves, thyme and season with salt and pepper to taste*.
🍁 Bring to a boil, then add green beans. 
🍁 Reduce heat to medium-low, cover and simmer until potatoes are almost fully tender, about 20 - 30 minutes. 
🍁 Add corn and peas and cook 5 minutes longer. Serve warm.
