I think a lot of us forget that the holiday season isn’t merry and bright for everyone.

This time of year is especially difficult for millions of older adults. In fact, the 3 biggest threats of aging are hunger, isolation and loss of independence. This month AT&T worked with local nonprofits to surprise seniors with smart devices they can use to stay connected – and spread a little holiday cheer.

Through its digital literacy initiative Digital You, AT&T is providing online tools, apps and resources for
people of all ages to learn how to have a safe and secure online experience.

This support is especially valuable to older adults. In 2014, 77% said they need help to walk through the
process of using a new tech device such as a smartphone or tablet. How cool, right? You know there are many older adults that are not tech-savvy!

And what a big world of technology we live in now!

What I find absolutely amazing is that my 5 year old and 9 year old can maneuver through any technological device in my household with ease. Hand over one of these devices to my parents or in-laws and I would be asked where the power button is. It is the world we live in and honestly I don’t mind trying to help out the older folks figure out social media so that we can share photos and other news with each other, especially when we aren’t able to be together during the holidays.

Not only can you find some pretty awesome information on how to use your device and what it can do, check out this site here to learn more about apps, how you can get them and more! How about Wi-Fi? How do you connect to it? You can get info on data plans and also how you can keep personal information private. Learn more about Digital You HERE.

I agree! It is a wonderful thing for AT&T to do! Love it.

  • This is such a nice idea. Thank you for sharing.

  • I love that Att is doing this to help seniors keep in touch with the younger generation to help feel out the isolation gap.

  • This is a great effort by AT&T. Seniors really need our care and attention too. Thanks for sharing.

  • My mom would have loved this program. She was completely technology challenged and was always calling us for help with her tech stuff!

    • I can very well relate. My mom also has a tough time keeping up with the latest technology.

  • This is a great way to help seniors connect with family. Great job, AT&T! No wonder you are the leader in telecommunications (and more!)

  • My mother in law is in her 50s and whenever she comes over and wants to use the cell phone to make a call it’s always like I’m giving a course. Can’t say she is the fastest learner lol Maybe this is something she would benefit from!

  • It breaks my heart to think while some people are enjoying a season, others are having a hard time with it. Sounds like AT&T is spreading cheer in a good way.

  • great story and a good thing they are doing. Always good to give back

  • I love that AT&T launched this campaign. I’m sure they made a lot of our seniors happy.

  • This is so great of AT&T. Technology can be a great way to stay in touch with far away family members, but it works a lot better if everyone knows how to use it.

    • I agree with you. My mom sometimes seem like she’s technophobic, but thanks to AT&T, she is finally able to figure out how to use her smartphone.

  • I’d love to see my mom learning how to use her devices more effectively. It would be great for her to be able to connect with all of her grandchildren.

  • That’s great that AT&T is doing this. Technology is definitely a challenge for older generations. It’s amazing to see how little kids use it effortlessly.

  • I think this is great. I think my grandma would love/hate it. She wouldn’t know how to use it!

  • At 93 my Mom is probably more tech savvy then I am! Her grandchildren made sure of that–as a matter of fact she is now thinking about getting a smart phone–I do not have a smart phone—Perhaps I am the one that needs to connect to this valuable program AT&T has put together!!

  • What a great tool for seniors. I know a lot of older people who could use this program.

  • It’s amazing that A&t has this kind of program. This is really useful.

  • I love that this is allowing seniors to connect with their loved ones. It’s a great way to bring them into modern times.

Ong way to go AT&T! Love that they are helping seniors connect!

  • I agree Holidays are not going to be joyful for everyone, particularly for the older adults & it is great to hear that ATT has such a wonderful program to help them on this as they all need our care and love too.

  • What a great way to think out of the box and help bring seniors up to speed on technology!
