According to Charity Navigator, $390.05 billion was donated to charities in 2016. Charitable organizations seem to see an increase in donations during the holiday season. If you are considering making a charitable donation this holiday season, here are some reputable charities to consider.
Direct Relief– Direct Relief is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, whose mission statement is to “improve the health and lives of people affected by poverty and emergencies. Founded in 1948, Direct Relief works in all 50 states, as well as in over 80 countries.
Homes for Our Troops- Homes for Our Troops is a privately funded, nonprofit organization that builds and donates homes to post-9/11 veterans who are severely injured. Founded in 2004, Homes for Our Troops has built and donated more than 240 homes.
National Alliance to End Homelessness– The National Alliance to End Homelessness is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that works to prevent and end homelessness in the United States. According to the organization’s State of Homelessness in America Report, there were 564,708 people who were homeless, in the United States, on any given night in 2015.
Partners in Health– Partners in Health is a nonprofit health care organization, based in Boston, Massachusetts and founded in 1987. Their mission statement states that their goals are “to bring the benefits of modern medical science to those most in need of them and to serve as an antidote to despair.” They provide healthcare services in the poorest areas of 10 developing countries.
PetSmart Charities– PetSmart Charities is a nonprofit organization that works with local PetSmart stores to find homes for homeless pets. Founded in 1994, PetSmart Charities has found homes for over 6 million pets.
The Nature Conservancy– The Nature Conservancy is an environmental organization that was founded in 1951. Their mission statement is to “conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends.” The organization focuses on global priorities of cities, climates, lands, oceans and water, in all 50 states and 69 countries.
