Lunch Ideas for Picky Eaters

Summer is over, kids are back in school and you have a picky eater!  (Yep, that’s me!) The good news is that you don’t have to dread the daily lunches. Here are some creative lunch ideas for your picky eater.

Cookie Cutter Sandwiches– If your picky eater likes sandwiches, chances are they don’t like the crust of the bread. So, first thing you want to do is cut the crust off the bread. Now, use a cookie cutter to create a cool bread shape. This turns a drab sandwich into a cool and creative one. Then, just add your child’s favorite sandwich ingredients and you’re done. To complete the lunch, add some cheese squares and strawberries.

English Muffin Pizzas– Many times, picky eaters like white foods, so English muffin pizzas are ideal and so easy to make. Slice an English muffin in half, add a couple teaspoons of marinara sauce and top with shredded mozzarella cheese. Then, just bake in the oven for 5 minutes at 350 degrees. To complete the lunch, add some grapes and Jell-O cups.

Hard Boiled Eggs– A great deal of picky eaters will eat eggs. So, hard boil a couple eggs, cut in half and sprinkle with salt and pepper. To complete the lunch, add some apple slices and Goldfish crackers.

Sandwich Kabobs– If your child absolutely doesn’t like traditional sandwiches, change things up a bit. Making sandwich kabobs can make a plain sandwich look yummy. Cut bread, deli meat, lettuce and cheese into small squares. Then, using long toothpicks, thread bread, deli meat, lettuce and cheese. To complete the lunch, add some grapes and pretzels.

String Cheese & Deli Meat Rolls– Most kids love string cheese, so skip the bread and make some string cheese and deli meat rolls. Just wrap a slice of your child’s favorite deli meat around string cheese and hold together with a toothpick. To complete the lunch, add some apple slices and graham crackers.

  • Hard boiled eggs were my go to when I was a kid. My mom used pimentos to make faces, even that far back!

  • I’ve tried the kabobs and 1 out of my 2 picky eaters loved them. I need to give the cookie cutter sandwiches a try!
