Tips For Keeping Your Home Clean & Organized

August 12, 2017 in Mom Life

Everyone wants to live in a tidy home, but not everyone knows how to make this a reality. It’s not easy to maintain a spotless space when you’re busy running around and taking care of your responsibilities. That’s why it’s important to be tackling particular tasks throughout the day and weeks consistently.

Don’t panic if your house is a mess. Simply take the time to understand what you can do to make the situation better in the moment. The first step is to make cleaning and organizing a priority. The rest will fall into place. See tips for keeping your home clean and organized.

Designate Cleaning Days
It’s easier to remember to clean when you designate certain days for completing the larger projects. Mark your calendar for when you’ll clean out your closets, do a deep clean of the entire home and organize your belongings. This way you’ll be committed to the responsibility and won’t have an excuse for getting out of it. Have the entire family help if you want it to go faster. The point is that you’re busy and it’s more likely that you’ll clean if you’re on a schedule. Designate what you’ll do weekly versus monthly and so on.

Purchase Organizing Tools
Head to your local store and purchase organizational tools that help you neatly store your belongings and organize your shelves and closets. Don’t feel like you need to do it all alone. That’s why they make these type of products. Storage bins, file boxes and baskets go a long way. Go around your home and see where storage solutions may be your answer. Use the tools to help you keep your items in order and in the proper place, so you know where to find them at a later date.

Call for Help
If a problem does occur, don’t be afraid to ask for help. It’s possible you’ll come across ants, termites or pests and will need to call on a professional to take care of the issue. When this happens to you, contact Go-Forth Pest Control who are certified and trained to get rid of pest problems effectively. They’re proud to offer a variety of pest control and lawn care services to homeowners looking to solve their problem immediately. They’re the experts and know exactly what to do when situations like this arise. Don’t try to remedy the concern yourself. Trust that they know what they’re doing and will clear your house of any pests. Sleep easy after they’re gone and feel good knowing your home is free of any infestations.

Complete the Laundry Often
Make sure to wash your dirty towels and laundry often. Avoid letting it pile up in your bedroom or laundry area. It’ll start to smell and create a messy appearance for all to see. Throw it in the washer on a rainy day or when you’re home on the weekends. Consistently do laundry so you don’t get backed up. After it’s done, fold it neatly and put items back where they belong. If you don’t do this right away, it’s likely you’ll fall behind in your routine. Notify family members where to put dirty laundry so it’s all in one place when you’re ready to wash it. Get hampers for the bedrooms to keep piles in one place. Organize your laundry room, so you know where all of your items are when you need them. After a while, you’ll realize that laundry isn’t so bad when you do it often and keep up with the loads. Your home will be cleaner, and the clothes will be put away where they belong.

Make your Bed Each Day

It’s a smart idea to get in the habit of making your bed each day. It’s a great way to start your day and good for your mental health. Your room will instantly look cleaner and more put together. That’s all it takes is a few minutes of your time. Try it and notice the difference in how much nicer your bedroom looks. While you’re at it, wipe down the bedside tables to freshen the room. It’ll take you a few seconds, and you’ll be glad to have the dust and dirt gone when you go to bed later. Also, pick apart your closet as you go. Pull out items you no longer wear or want to donate as you’re getting ready and notice them lingering. Shuffle items around so they’re in order and make sure each item is on a hanger or folded in a drawer.

Clear Countertops of Clutter

Go around to each room in the home and ensure the countertops are clear of dirt and clutter. Keeping your countertops nice and tidy will instantly increase the appearance of the space. Store away items that are out that don’t need to be and place your belongings that are staying visible in an orderly fashion. Make it a habit to wipe down the countertops and keep them fresh and clean. There’s no need to overcrowd your countertops for everyone to see. It’ll make it easier to get ready, cook and give you space to rest your elbows. This is also a good time to get rid of any items you no longer need or are just taking up space.

Load & Unload Dishwasher Regularly

Keep your kitchen countertops and sink clean by avoiding stacking dishes in these areas. The room will start to smell, and you’ll experience food and grime buildup. Make it a habit to load and unload your dishwasher on a regular basis. If you must have any dishes in the sink, at least rinse them off and prepare them for the dishwasher. You’ll quickly see how this one task easily enhances the look of your kitchen and keeps it looking nice. It’s an easy chore that only takes a few minutes. Ask family members to pitch in and help out so that you don’t fall behind.

Clean as you Cook
Clean as you cook is an excellent tip and one all homeowners should follow. Although it feels a bit frustrating at the time, it’s such a nice feeling once you’re all done and don’t have a lot to do when you’re finished cooking the meal. Do the prep work and make sure it’s clean and cleared before you begin cooking. Start rinsing dishes, loading the dishwasher and wiping down countertops as you prepare your meal. You’ll thank yourself when you’re done cooking and don’t have much else left to do besides put the dishes you’re eating on in the dishwasher. It’s a good way to kill time as you wait for your meal to bake or cook on the burner. Do it a few times, and it’ll soon become habit.

Consistently Take out Trash

Be good about putting trash and recycling from your house in your bin and taking it out on the designated days. Go around the house and routinely collect trash from each room. Take it out on your way out the door, and you won’t have anything to worry about when it comes time to throw it away completely. Getting into a routine will prevent you from creating a pile up of garbage in your home. You won’t enjoy it when it starts to smell and cause other problems. Add it to your to-do list and stay consistent about taking it out.

Organize the Entryway

The entryway is the first place your family and guests see when they enter the home. Clean and organize the space so people can walk and store their belongings. Add hooks and shelves to the area where belongings are kept and so they’re easy to find at a later date. The last situation you want to occur is for the entryway to become too cluttered and difficult to walk. Paint the space and make it inviting and welcoming. Put a rug down to add a level or style and comfort. Look at the entrance as a continuation of your home and take care of it. You’ll thank yourself when you have guests over and don’t need to be embarrassed when they walk in your home.

Keep Baskets in Each Room
It’s a good idea to have baskets in each room of your home. They come in all sorts of textures, styles and colors. Pick a few that go with your home and place them in appropriate spots in each room. Use them to store towels, magazines and any other personal belongings. They’ll keep your floors free of clutter and offer a perfect solution for storing those items that you aren’t sure what to do with them. They’re easy to find at a local store or online and will help you immensely in your goal to keep your home nice and tidy.

Conclusion

Stop letting excuses keep you from having a spotless home to live in. That’s all you need is to implement a few routines and pick up some good habits. These are tips for keeping your home clean and organized.

Not panicking when the house is a mess is something that I have had to learn to deal with. Sometimes, life just happens and cleaning has to momentarily be put on the back burner.
