Family vacations are a lot of fun. It allows families to spend quality time together, while doing things the whole family enjoys. Here are some of the best family resorts in 2016.


The Resort at Paws Up- The Resort at Paws Up is located in Greenough, Montana. The resort is spread over 37,000 acres and was an actual working cattle ranch. The resort features 28 cabins and 30 safari-style camping tents. The family-owned resort has an array of activities for families to enjoy including river rafting, horseback riding, fly fishing, chuck wagon rides and paintball wars. The resort also offer activities aimed towards just kids like scavenger hunts, petting zoo and face painting.


Tyler Place Family Resort– The Tyler Place Family Resort is located in Swanton, Vermont. This all-inclusive resort that is set on 165 acres of private shoreline of Edward’s Bay on Lake Champlain. It is a family-owned resort and has been for the past 75 years. The resort features 12 family studios and suites, a fireplace lounge where adults can enjoy cocktails and live nightly entertainment and recreational centers for kids. Younger kids can enjoy activities such as nature outings, swimming, boating and camp fires while older kids can partake in activities like archery, waterskiing and wakeboarding.


Vista Verde Ranch– The Vista Verde Ranch is located in Clark, Colorado. The resort features a lodge that can accommodate up to 6 people, as well as 9 on-site cabins. Vista Verde, which stands for The Green View, was a working cattle ranch back in the 1930’s. The ranch was constructed in 1975 and has gone through a few upgrades since that time. The resort offers numerous activities for kids, including hayrides, volleyball games, scavenger hunts, horseback riding and arts and crafts. The ranch also offers family activities including mountain biking, outdoor pool and cooking classes.


Skytop Lodge– The Skytop Lodge is located in Skytop, Pennsylvania. The lodge is set on 5,500 acres of natural surroundings and was established in 1928. The lodge offers an array of rooms and suites to accommodate families of all sizes. There are numerous family activities to enjoy at the resort, including lawn bowling, tennis, archery, miniature golf and arcade games. In addition, the resort also offers an indoor swimming pool, an outdoor swimming pool, lake swimming in Skytop Lake and furnished country-style rooms.


Hideout Lodge & Guest Ranch– The Hideout Ranch is located in Shell, Wyoming. The ranch is located on 300,000 acres of ranch and farm land. They offer an array of activities including hiking, riding lessons, canoeing and 4X4 tours. Lodging at the Hideout Lodge & Guest Ranch includes log cabins, as well as Ritz-Carlton style homes. They resort serves healthy Western dishes that are made with fresh, local ingredients.

  • These all look so great! That skytop lounge looks so pretty, too. 5,500 acres is a whole lot of land!

  • We go on vacation every year, usually to the same place. However, my husband and I were just talking about doing something different this year. You gave us a lot of ideas to consider.

  • This is great! Thank you for compiling this list. Typically we just stay at a hotel wherever we go… but theres a lot to be said for staying at a resort or lodge that has so many amenities! And these places all seem to be off the beaten path (read: more relaxing). I will definitly refer to this list as we plan our vacay this year!
