Fantastic Ways to Celebrate Winter as a Family

snow (Yes, this is our old house a few years back! Look at all that fun snow!)

Winter is such a great time for families to do things together. Here are some fantastic ways to celebrate winter as a family:

sledding

Sledding– Sledding is so much fun and something that can be enjoyed as a family. Whether you and your family have a saucer, tube, sled or toboggan, find a huge hill and enjoy hours of family fun. Be sure to bundle up in layers so everyone stays nice and warm.

skiing

Skiing– Even if you and your family don’t participate in downhill skiing, there is always cross-country skiing. If you don’t downhill ski but have always wanted to, now is the perfect time to learn. Kids can learn to ski as young as five years of age. Mostly all ski areas have slopes that are designed for young kids.

iceskating

Ice skating– Ice skating is a world of fun. Kids can start ice skating as young as age 4 or 5. Ice skating is something that is tricky to learn at first but fun and addicting once they get the hang of it. Ensure that beginner ice skaters wear a helmet and maybe some knee pads.

Bowling– Bowling is a great activity if you just don’t want to go out in the cold but you still want to get out of the house. Engage in a competition game with parents against kids.

Arcade– Arcades are not just for summer you know? Give them each a handful of quarters and let them have fun and play the arcade games they enjoy. It is one of the best ways to spend an afternoon as a family.

Museums– What a perfect time to explore museums than the cold winter months. There are numerous types of museums including science, history and art.

Movie theater– Seeing a movie together as a family is ideal for days when the weather isn’t so great outside. Most movie theaters have family movies showing so grab the kids, get some popcorn and see a movie together.

I try ti keep the kids busy. Cabin fever is no fun.

  • I would love to take the kids skiing. We can’t wait for summer though!

  • We LOVE to get out and play in the winter. Living in Canada, you either learn to absolutely adore the snow or leave. We like the powder!

  • We used to love ice skating! Here isn’t a rink anymore in our town and we really miss it.

  • I used to go skiing when I was a teen. I’ve tried getting hubby to go, but he’s worried about weak ankles and skis. I may just have to take the kids myself!

  • I miss all the snow activities! We get very little snowfall here even though it can get pretty cold.

  • I can’t wait to take my kids skiing. It’s going to be so much fun! And it will be really fun when my youngest is a little older so we can all go to the movies on a lazy Sunday.

  • Great list going on here. It would be a dream to live somewhere where sledding was a normal winter thing to do. It just looks so fun.

  • What a great list of fun activities. My kids love ice skating and playing arcade games.

  • We love going on and playing in the snow! It can be so hard to be inside all the time! Yuck!

  • There can be a lot of happiness in snowy days spent with family! The only concern I have is that it is too cold

  • I have only been ice skating once. It was when I was about 7 or 8 and I remember cutting my knee and falling on the ice!
