AT&T Spreads The Cheer To Seniors This Holiday Season #ATTImpact

I think a lot of us forget that the holiday season isn’t merry and bright for everyone.

This time of year is especially difficult for millions of older adults. In fact, the 3 biggest threats of aging are hunger, isolation and loss of independence. This month AT&T worked with local nonprofits to surprise seniors with smart devices they can use to stay connected – and spread a little holiday cheer.

Through its digital literacy initiative Digital You, AT&T is providing online tools, apps and resources for
people of all ages to learn how to have a safe and secure online experience. 

This support is especially valuable to older adults. In 2014, 77% said they need help to walk through the
process of using a new tech device such as a smartphone or tablet. How cool, right? You know there are many older adults that are not tech-savvy!

And what a big world of technology we live in now!

What I find absolutely amazing is that my 5 year old and 9 year old can maneuver through any technological device in my household with ease. Hand over one of these devices to my parents or in-laws and I would be asked where the power button is. It is the world we live in and honestly I don’t mind trying to help out the older folks figure out social media so that we can share photos and other news with each other, especially when we aren’t able to be together during the holidays.

  • My mother in law is in her 50s and whenever she comes over and wants to use the cell phone to make a call it’s always like I’m giving a course. Can’t say she is the fastest learner lol Maybe this is something she would benefit from!

    • I agree with you. My mom sometimes seem like she’s technophobic, but thanks to AT&T, she is finally able to figure out how to use her smartphone.

  • At 93 my Mom is probably more tech savvy then I am! Her grandchildren made sure of that–as a matter of fact she is now thinking about getting a smart phone–I do not have a smart phone—Perhaps I am the one that needs to connect to this valuable program AT&T has put together!!

  • I agree Holidays are not going to be joyful for everyone, particularly for the older adults & it is great to hear that ATT has such a wonderful program to help them on this as they all need our care and love too.
