It took me a couple of months to find the perfect wreath for my front door. I typically gravitate towards autumn, earthy tones, but for the spring and summer seasons I wanted to branch out…expand my horizons with color.  I’m so used to the same old colors, same old style of decor so for my door I wanted something fun.

After gathering opinions from various friends and family members and an agonizing back-and-forth banter with my husband, I decided on this beauty from Wreaths For Door via Amazon. Summer Blue Hydrangea Silk Spring Door Wreath  Gorgeous, right?  I thought so.

A couple of days after proudly hanging my new piece of decor and admiring it from afar, I noticed something that I filed in the back in my mind to check out later.  Life gets busy and sometimes we forget about the little things that encompass our minds.

Later that evening, Lola and I went outside to check the mail.  It was when Lola pointed to a “cute bird on the front step”, along with a big dropping of doo doo that I walked over to the front door.   I looked up to discover something that sent me into extreme disappointment and annoyance. A bird’s nest? For real???!!  Good freakin’ grief.  This wreath I spent literally months picking out officially had residents.  And they aren’t even paying rent!

As I was getting ready to take down the nest,  I took a peek inside and noticed four little blue eggs.

And, of course with how inquisitive my 5-year-old is, I knew she was going to pose the dreaded question.

“Mama, are there eggs in the nest?” she asked as she looked up at me with her big brown eyes.

Because I spend a lot of my time these days telling Lola that lying is bad, I couldn’t just take down the nest and dispose of the evidence of eggs in MY WREATH.  I mumbled, “Yes, there are eggs in the nest.”

While we were taking a little look, I heard a ruckus coming from a bird nearby.  It was her, the wreath intruder, who was tweeting with vigor.  It was almost as if she was yelling at me.  “Step away from my babies, girl or I’m gonna peck the heck out of your ankles and your little girl too.”

“Mommy, can we keep them”? Lola asked with excitement.  As the mama Robin eyed me down and my little girl stared up at me in wonder, I knew the answer.

So, for the next 14 days (give or take) we watch and wait for (whom we would now name) Yolanda to welcome her babies to the world.

I then proceeded to tell Lola that we had to leave the nest alone so that we didn’t upset Yolanda.

I guess Yolanda gets a free pass…this time.
