3 Things to Take into Account When Purchasing Furniture

Although there definitely are ways to save money on buying furniture, it is important that you know how to choose the proper furniture in the first place. You should plan on checking out certain things in the design of the piece in order to find out if it is cost-effective to purchase it. Here are some tips on choosing the proper furniture to save money.

Things to Take into Account When Purchasing Furniture

1. Know Your Wood Types– Take the time to learn the various wood types used to make furniture. This will help you to decide whether or not the ticketed price is too high for the type of wood it is made from. Solid wood pieces cost more money but are susceptible to scratches and stains. Veneers are also made of wood but only have a thin covering of polished wood. They are generally lower in price.

2. Inspect the Workmanship– Do not choose a piece of furniture just because of its visual appeal. Take the time to thoroughly inspect it. Look at inside the drawers, check hardware, and make sure that it closes properly.

3. Color Picking– Remember when buying furniture to choose a color that will accent your home and bring out its natural beauty. Medium or dark colored wood looks great in a room that has a lot of light. Choose lighter wood furniture for rooms that are small and do not have the best lighting.

Choosing the proper furniture for your lifestyle will save you money in the long run. Spending more money on furniture is sometime necessary in order to get the quality you desire. Before actually purchasing it, think about how many years it would want it to last before you fork over any dough.

  • These are important tips – thanks for the info!

  • I picked my furniture out because of appeal… But I must say it is pretty well built. I’ve had it for almost 7 years now and it’s still got some life left.

  • Sounds like good advice to me. We’ve never bought much new furniture unfortunately.

I used to work at a furniture store and still get the awesome discount when I shop there.

  • Those are very good tips, but i would add 1 more in.. Make sure your wife likes it..

  • Those are some great tips! I agree that spending more money for quality will help you in the long run!

  • Choosing color is a great tip! I recently bought new couches and had to be talked out of buying this (really awesome) red and grey leather couch by my husband who reminded me it would match nothing in our house LOL!

We just bough new wood chairs. We live in Amish country so we headed over to a Amish run shop that build the furniture from hand using locally sourced wood. It took 2 months from the time we ordered our chairs to receive them, but the quality and lifetime warranty was worth the wait and crazy price.

  • Great tips!

  • Wow! I never even thought of any of this! I usually just sit on it or looking at it seemed to be good enough for me too. But not thought about anything else really. Great tips!

  • Your post came at just the right time! We are in the market for furniture. Perfect timing… Thank You 🙂

  • These are all really great points to take into consideration when buying furniture.
